Yes. It's a USA-made, eco-friendly treatment — no zinc, bleach, or peroxide. The active ingredient is potassium salts of fatty acids, essentially a plant-based soap, and it is safe for gardens, plants, etc. Compare that to zinc sulfate, the other product you will see recommended for moss: it's genuinely toxic to breathe and rough on plants and animals. We do not use it, and we do not use bleach or peroxide either.

Moss retains water, roots into the shingles, and holds moisture against them — in bad cases it works its way all the way through the shingle into the wood underneath, and it grows in the cracks and lifts and separates shingles as it spreads. It matters for reasons beyond damage — getting a roof ready to sell, meeting an insurance company's requirements, or just keeping the place looking cared for. The one exception is a roof that is already near the end of its life: if cleaning will not buy it meaningful years, we will guide you to our roofing trade partner.

In the past, we have matched pricing against other companies — but only if that competitor could show active CCB registration, workers' comp insurance, and Department of Agriculture chemical-applicator licensing. It is a way of making sure a price comparison is apples-to-apples, not us against an unlicensed operation underbidding on purpose. These legalities cost money, and they are for your protection. 

We come out and look at every roof in person — the free roof check. It is the only way to give you an honest number and catch what a photo would miss, and there is no charge for the visit. You get photos of anything we find.

Three things: that the company is licensed with the Oregon CCB (check at oregon.gov/CCB), that whoever is applying treatment is licensed by the Oregon Department of Agriculture, and that they carry workers' comp if they have employees on your roof. We do not charge for leak estimates. However, we do charge for going in your attic if deemed necessary. If you are an existing customer of ours, we will not charge for inspecting your attic.

It is a good thing to ask all companies before they begin work. 

Oregon requires anyone applying moss prevention or treatment to be licensed by the Department of Agriculture — it's not optional paperwork, it's a customer protection. An unlicensed applicator isn't accountable to that state oversight if something goes wrong, and you have little real recourse. Checking that license, along with CCB registration and workers' comp, is the fastest way to tell a legitimate company from a truck-and-a-hose operation.

Yes, and we think every roofing company should. They are safer for whoever is on the roof. Installed anchors typically run around $150 each, going in under the ridge cap. Sealed and the fasteners never exposed. It is Oregon law to have them installed for safety.

The treatment goes on the day we're there and starts working right away — but roof moss doesn't vanish on the spot. Over the next several weeks the treatment kills it at the root, and the dead moss dries out and weathers off on its own. That's the deliberate trade-off: a treatment that actually kills at the root beats scrubbing the surface, which just knocks back what's visible and lets the moss grow back sooner. If you'd rather not wait for it to shed naturally, just ask — we can hand-brush it off, but on most roofs the treatment does the work.

With our treatment — and maintenance plan — far longer than a one-time scrub. The goal is to keep moss from re-establishing, not just knock it back for a season. We have seen the best results with the roofs that get treated every year. 

Most roofs do well with treatment once a year. If you wanted to save money, you could do an every other year treatment schedule, depending on how your roof responds. We will tell you what your roof actually needs. 

We do not put a specific timeframe on it, and we are skeptical of companies that do — that is usually a newer outfit that has seen enough roofs yet to know better. What we guarantee is that we will kill the moss with the first treatment and that your roof will look much better every year, as long as you stick to the maintenance plan. Stay ahead of it: make it easy on yourself and just have your roof treated annually. 

If freezing temperatures or heavy rain are forecasted for your appointment day, we would rather move the date than apply treatment under conditions that compromise it — Portland weather gets a vote in scheduling. Once treatment is properly applied, a little rain afterward is not necessarily a problem. Our product works in the rain, but customers usually like to ask questions when it rains that day. So we would prefer to make it easy on everyone and just treat your roof on a dry day. 

Moss treatment sized to what your roof needs, the eco-friendly, USA-made product, a full photo-documented roof inspection, and hard-surface cleanup around the house afterward — all at no extra charge beyond the quoted price. Guard removal/reinstallation, raking debris out of grass or planting beds, and repairs beyond small spot-fixes are the main things outside the standard bid; we will flag those separately before we start.

A full roof inspection with photos, emailed directly to you — so you can see exactly what we saw, with nothing left to guesswork. Photos of the job completed and a checkmark that you have had your roof maintained properly for the year. You will get an email reminder around the same time every year. 

If needed, requested and quoted for — we will clean the inside of gutters, the tops of gutter guards and make sure the spouts are running clear. If guards need to actually come off and go back on, that is a separate job, so let us know ahead of time if that applies to you.

Yes — we clean all the hard surfaces around your house, and leave the property cleaner than we found it. Raking debris out of grass or planting beds is outside the standard bid, so ask if you would like that included.

If they are glass, yes — We do not touch plastic skylights. We also work close to the roof surface on purpose to keep overspray off your skylights. If we ever do get one dirty during a job, we will clean it at no charge.

A short checklist: unlock any gates so we can reach the roof and gutters, have your front water spigot open and accessible (we use it for the treatment and cleanup), close all windows before we start, bring pet dishes inside and keep pets — especially dogs — inside while we are working. Let us know ahead of time if you have gutter guards installed. Cleanup your area. Move cars away from eaves. We want to be the only contractors working on your home that day.
